摘要：詞匯是文章中最基本的語言材料，離開詞匯，我們就不能描繪豐富多彩世界 。英漢兩種語言產生于不同的文化背景，英漢詞匯所包涵的各種文化意義存在同一性和差異性 。本文從漢英詞匯語義現象出發，運用對比分析的方法對英漢語言詞匯的偶合、并行、空缺和沖突等方面的語言現象進行分析比較 。特別是從詞匯的翻譯意義出發 ， 探討其相互之間的關系 ， 以便在翻譯中找到正確的方法 ， 有助于外語教學和文化交際 。

Abstract:Vocabulary is the most basic materials in the text, which is closely related to our rich words and our living experiences. There are many cultural differences between the two languages and there exists the similarities and diversities in selecting vocabulary . 一詞匯偶合
英漢兩種語言在選擇詞匯時, 不可能出現絕對的一致. 因為人們的生活經驗往往不完全相同.但英漢語言在選詞造句方面有著相同或相似之處 。這一現象就是人們所說的語言偶合現象. 以head 為例：
（1）人或動物的最前部分
They cut his head off他們割下了他的頭 。
（2）首腦
the head of the government政府首腦
（3）頭狀物
hit the head of a nail with the head of a hammer 用錘子頭砸釘子頭 。
（4）頭數

1.1同一動物名稱所表示的語義偶合現象
各民族對某些動物屬性往往有共同的認識,從而對一些動物名稱產生相似的聯想, 例如“狐貍”與fox （“狡猾”）

1.2 不同動物名稱表示的詞義偶合現象
不同民族文化有時用不同動物名稱表達相同的國俗語義 。下面從表示“愚蠢”、“威風”、“膽怯”這三個語義的動物名稱來分析：
漢語里有許多表示“愚蠢”義的動物名稱，常見的有“豬、熊、驢”三個 。如“你真熊” ， 即說“你真笨”的意思 。“豬玀”、“蠢豬”是“笨人”的意思 。而在英語里，表示相應語義有donkey 或ass ,pig ,goose 等動物 。以donkey和ass為例：
Why did you put your finger in the fire, your silly donkey?
你這頭蠢驢 ， 為什么把手伸到火里呢？
You ass ! You stupid ass! How could you do such a thing like that ?
你這頭驢 ， 你這頭蠢驢 ， 怎么會干出那種事兒來？
漢語常用動物“虎”來比喻“虎虎生氣”“猛虎下山”等意思；英語卻用lion 來表示，不用tiger, 如bold as a lion （如獅子般勇猛） majestic as a lion （如獅子般威風凜凜） 。
英漢 所指相同或類似 ， 而表達不同的概念不少，譯者決不可為求形似而舍棄傳意 ， 在形似而不能傳意的情況下 ， 譯者應盡可能舍棄原語中詞語的形，用譯語的習慣表達取而代之 ， 只有這樣，譯文才有可能給讀者帶來大致一樣的效果 。
二詞匯并行
漢語和英語用不同方式來表達同一事物 。譬如 ， 我們用“猶如雨后春筍”這個短語比喻新事物大量涌現，英語中則有“just like mushrooms”（猶如蘑菇一樣眾多）這樣的說法 。兩者形式雖不一樣，但在表示“眾多”這層意思上，它們是并行的，因此可用來互譯 。再如He is in the dog house，應譯為“他名聲掃地了”，譯文與原文在語義上是一種并行現象 。當然，這種英漢對應的說法在形象詞語的整體中只是極為個別的巧合，可以說是“可遇而不可求” 。由于英漢民族的特點不同，英漢形象語言的表現形式是有差別的，所以研究英漢語言時須從其民族的特點入手 ， 才能達到正確理解和運用 。下面就此問題作具體分析 。
2.1英漢民族地理環境不同
中國是以陸地為主的國家，所以在形象語言上自然是以陸地上的人、事物作比喻 。相反，英國是個海洋國家，語言表達上聯想的自然是與海上有關的事物，并且他們的生產及經濟活動也都反映到他們的形象語言中 。例如比喻在嚴峻考驗下才能顯示出誰是最堅強者時，漢語成語為“疾風知勁草”，英語中則說a good ship is not known when the sea is calm and the water fair. （在天氣晴朗和大海平靜時看不出好舵手）；漢語中的“未雨綢繆”是說在未下雨之前翻透桑田土地，修好門窗，比喻平時做好準備，英語則說While it is fine weather mend your sail （修帆趁天晴），盡管喻義相同，在不同民族的具體地理環境中各自引起的聯想就不同 ， 中國民族首先想到的是“綢繆牖戶”；而英國民族首先想到的是“修帆” 。在習語翻譯中，可以采用并且必須采用并行的翻譯方法，即用形式不同但喻義相同或相似的譯文來取代原文 。另外中國和英國對“西風”的感受互不相同，這一概念在英國人心理有如中國人對春天的感受，這是英國地處西半球的緣故 。中國自古以來，就有“南為尊北為卑”的傳統 。英語卻恰恰相反，表達“從南到北”時自然就為from north to south ,還有西北、西南、東北、東南之類的方位詞分別為northwest ,southwest , northeast, southeast .
因此我們在學習和研究英漢形象語言時 ， 不能離開其民族的地域、經濟及其心理素質，只有抓住了民族特點，才能正確理解一個民族的內涵，以達到正確理解、翻譯、運用之目的 。
2.2英漢民族風俗習慣不同
英漢民族習俗差異是多方面的. 由于生活環境相異,觀察角度不同,他們對于色彩的感受,必然反映到語言中來,形成多姿多彩的世界. 在中國文化中 ， 結婚使人聯想到與紅色有關的形象：大紅喜字、大紅燈籠等；而西方文化中婚禮使人聯想到白色婚紗、白色衣服及教堂 。如：
Every time he comes to New York, he wants to paint the town red .
他每次到紐約，都要瘋狂地慶祝一番 。
red在西方文化中多表示憤怒、激動、發狂等
Mention of animal experiments was like a red rag to a bull to the anti-vivisectionist.
對反對活體解剖者來說，一提到動物實驗他就暴跳如雷 。
green 在英語中則常表示嫉妒 ， 生氣之意，也表示生手或表示受欺侮之義 ，

2.3 英漢民族宗教信仰不同
中英兩個民族由于宗教信仰不同,就難免在文化上出現差異.如表示希望獲得成功時,中國人常用“菩薩保佑”或“上天保佑”,這是中國人多信仰佛教；而英國人多信仰基督教,他們的偶像是上帝,所以對此準確表達為“May God bless me ”或“God bless you”.另如三個和尚的典故：一個和尚挑水喝，兩個和尚抬水喝，三個和尚沒水喝 。要把這句諺語翻譯成神形并茂的英語并不那么容易，主要是西方對“和尚”這個概念比較陌生 。如果只重傳意，可套用英語中現成的成語：One boy is a boy, two boys are half a boy, three boys no boy。如果重形式 ， 則可用直譯加解釋的方法：One monk, two buckets; two monks ,one bucket; three monks, no bucket, no water---more hands , less work .取舍如何，關鍵要看作者注重哪個方面 。
三 詞匯空缺
詞匯空缺是指兩種語言之間詞語或詞義非對應現象 。英漢民族文化的不同必然導致英漢語按照各自的方式對主客觀世界進行不同的切分和特化 ， 這必然會出現詞匯空缺現象 。語言之間的詞匯空缺現象是一種普遍存在而又給翻譯造成較多困難的現象，可以概括為：一、生活環境、生活經驗差異而引起詞匯空缺；二、宗教信仰不同而引起詞匯空缺；三、風俗習慣不同而引起詞匯空缺 。
3.1生活環境、生活經驗差異而引起詞匯空缺
由于英漢民族所處生活環境不同，一種語言可能在另一種語言中找不到對應的資源，出現詞匯空缺現象 。比如，在英國竹子不是土生土長的植物，因此在其語言系統中找不到對應的原始詞匯，必然借鑒其他語言詞匯 。漢語的“筍”就只好譯成bamboo –shoot.
英國天氣變幻無常，陰雨天多，人們對天氣也就產生了一種特殊感情，喜歡談論天氣 。無論城市或農村，陌生人之間或朋友之間 ， 這類話題也就伺空見慣了；而在漢語中卻多以吃飯為話題，漢語中出現了許多圍繞吃飯問題所建立的詞語和表達法，在英語中就很難找到字面對應的表達法 。比如，“吃不開”，“吃大鍋飯”，“吃閑飯” ， “吃不消”等等，譯成英語就無法字字對應了 。
3.2宗教信仰不同而引起詞匯空缺
中英兩國民族宗教信仰不同，就難免在文化上出現真空地帶，即文化空缺 ， 這種空缺在詞語的使用上顯得尤為突出 。

不管我們在地球什么地方，讓我們雙方都記住先知以賽亞的重托：“卸下重負…讓所有受壓迫的人都獲得自由 。”
中英兩國彼此間有很多文化方面的空缺，像中國的農歷節氣、天干地支、陰陽八卦、道教、中醫、武術等；英語國家中的牛仔文化、嬉皮士文化等，在譯語中都很難找到對等的詞語來表達這些異國文化現象 。翻譯中如遇這類詞語，最好是直譯加補譯的方法 。
3.3 風俗習慣不同而引起詞匯空缺
中英兩國都有悠久的歷史 ， 在歷史的長河中形成了各具特色的文化和風俗習慣，這些差異也必然出現詞匯空缺 ， 語言中的數字本無所謂兇吉 ， 由于人們的習慣不同，英漢語言中的數字賦予了不同的意義，如西方英語國家對“十三”特別忌諱 ， 認為不吉祥（bad luck）；而漢語中卻找不到對應的詞匯內涵意義，中國人對歐美文化的這種認識頗為費解，倒是對“六”、“八”情有獨鐘,認為“六六大順”（good luck） 。歐美人對中國文化單雙日的微妙含義也很費解 。
綜上所述，文化差異必然導致英漢詞匯或詞義的非對應或空缺現象，這一現象又造成了翻譯的困難 。好的譯文應盡可能最大限度地貼近原文，表達出原文蘊含的信息量和文化意義，為此，應根據具體情況采取不同的譯法 。
四詞匯沖突
詞匯沖突是指語言與語言之間存在著矛盾，這種現象雖不多，但在翻譯中卻不容忽視，稍有疏忽，便有失之毫厘 ， 謬以千里的可能 。詞匯沖突具體表現為以下兩種情況 。
4.1英漢語概念相同 ， 但褒貶義不同
在英漢詞匯文化內涵對比時,應注意到許多詞匯在一種語言中表示積極的、正面的意思，而在另一種語言中卻可能表示消極的、反面的意思 。如peasant 在英語中通常指未受教育，舉止粗魯，缺乏修養的意思 。而在我國，“農民”一詞指從事農業生產的勞動者，沒有英語中的那種貶義 。許多英語學習者以為“農民”就是peasant ,在處理 “我父母親是農民”時，譯為my parents are peasants
其實應用farmer 一詞才準確 。因文化內涵不同出現褒貶義不同的還

politician ≠政客ambition≠ 野心
propaganda≠宣傳individualism ≠個人主義
翻譯這類詞語時，要對詞義褒貶、指稱范圍小心謹慎 ， 一味地采用對等翻譯，譯作和原作就會出現貌合神離的現象，導致翻譯的失敗 。
4.2 英漢語概念相同,但聯想含義相反.
這類現象主要是表示動植物的詞,其真正意義是兩個民族所賦予了不同的聯想.漢語的“龍”和英語的dog 就很有代表性.“龍”是中華民族的象征 ， 它代表了一種氣勢磅礴的民族精神 ， 所引起的聯想多為正面意義，然而在英語中它與邪惡、恐怖相聯系 。如:“望子成龍”就不能譯成to hope that one’s son will be become a dragon ,應譯為to hope that one’s son will become somebody . “亞洲四小龍”也不能譯為the four Asian dragons ,而應譯為the four Asian tigers . 對于這類詞語，譯者不要拘泥于原文，要考慮到譯語中可能出現的沖突現象，采取變換手法，盡力將該詞的文化內涵義譯出 。
