1、出自姬姓，以國名為氏。東周平王小兒子名叫精英，被封在樅國，在今安徽省桐城東南，為侯爵稱樅侯。樅侯的后代就以國名樅為氏，漢代以后，去木旁為從氏，才有從姓。
2、出自漢代將軍從公的后代，以祖字為氏。據《元和姓纂》的記載，漢代時，有大將軍樅公，其后代以其名字為姓，姓從。
